FFXII Trailer...
« on: December 23, 2003, 09:40:41 am »

This is a couple of days old, but IGN apparently put up some FFXII trailer impressions for the... new trailer.  Unfortunately, the trailer itself isn't actually on the page, but... meh.  Next best thing, I guess. Smiley

Anyway, it sounds pretty cool... seems to incorporate a few scenes from the last trailer (which is available on various websites, I'd imagine, but I'm too lazy to look.  If you really want it, you could always, you know... find it on the DC Hub... [/DC Hub Plug]), only they're longer now or something.
Can't wait 'till I actually get a chance to, like, see it.  Hopefully someone'll have it up eventually.

Here's the only link to the trailer that I've found as provided by Magicbox and Quiter.  Sound quality's pretty much nonexistent but there's still the purty pictures to be had.

Personally, I think that 2d RPGs were so much better than 3d ones. Long live FF4, FF6 and Chrono Trigger!  It's just pathetic when they need to put an arrow on the screen so you can distinguish yourself from your surroundings. I just prefer the simple 2d rpgs; they allow more imagination. I'd have to say, disagreeing with about every other person here, that FF9 was THE BEST 3D FF. It just was never as popular as the other FF's because it came out when PS2 was just starting to become super big, and people didn't want a "stupid PS1 game," but to me it was the most enjoyable.

Tidus blew, Squall blew, And Zidane was a transvestite from another dimension.

Square is deffinatly going down hill as far as main characters go. I mean in 8 Irvine was cooler than squall, in 9 vivi was cooler than any other charater in the game and in 10 Kimhari and Auron were far cooler than Tidus could ever be.

I just hope to god that the main character isn't some pussy whipped, emo kid who complains every 10 steps.

Long live Cloud and Cecil!!!!

Terra was also very very awesome. Cecil of course was the best, but Terra kicked major ass.  Cloud was cool...If I had to rank the final fantasies, it would be like this:

1) FF4
2) FF6
3) FF9
4) FF7
5) FFT/FFTA
6) FF1 and FF2 (tie)
7) FF8
Cool FF10/10-2
9) FF5

FF3 is lost...I'm not sure where it is...Americans need it though Sad

I have not played FF11 but I heard it's alright. I can't judge it.

I'd probably have to rate FF9 slightly above FF7 which is closely followed by FF6.   Why on earth they never gave FF6 a makeover is beyond me.  I can't comment on FFX or X2 since I dont have a PS2.

There was one character in FF9 who looked like a transvestite but it wasn't Zidane.

As for FF8 that game was just riddled with problems which is a pity because it had a lot of potential and superb graphics.  I remember playing the demo and thinking this game looks brilliant especially the way Seifer was used to add conflict in Squall's group.  Then I buy the game and he's not even playable for the rest of the story.   Still Laguna was a pretty cool character.

FF9 was very good, and probably my overall favorite Final Fantasy game so far (other than Tactics).  It only really suffered from two problems: the big frog-man, Quina, and the fact that Beatrix was so cool but didn't feature very much in the game.  Also, Steiner's character design should've been more similar to Amano's artwork of him -- which rocked, as oposed to how stupid he looked in the game.

But llamadude... your refusal to consider newer, 3d games in comparison to older 2d ones is every bit as silly as saying that 2d games always blow because they have shitty graphics.  Anyway, FF6 was better than FF4 any day.  Tongue

Everyone needs to quit whining about the effeminate main characters.  It's not like you haven't seen it before.  Tidus' personality wasn't that bad -- the only reason people complain about him is because he looks like a Backstreet Boy.  So what?  The main villain in FF6 looked like a friggin' court jester, and that didn't stop him from being a great villain.

Anyway, I must say that FF12 really looks impressive.  I'm trying not to anticipate it too much, but it just looks like it's going to be really, really good.  I just hope it lives up to my expectations, unlike some other games. *coughcoughXenosagacough*

Agreed though I thought Quina was female

Yep again I agree, why Steiner looked like he had makeup on (particularly around the eyes) I will never know

Yeah but see the court jester look worked for the guy in FF6, just because he was FRIGGAN crazy! He was by far one of the best Villians, next to good ol' Sephiroth.

Tidus looked like a Backstreet boy and acted like one. Square should have just saved us the trouble and choped of his balls, given him boobs and long hair and actually made him a girl, instead of making him act like one.

Hold up, hold up. Did you just put Sephiroth over Kefka? Are you smoking crack? How in god's name is Sephiroth better than Kefka?

Oh right... he isn't.

It makes me wonder if you even payed attention while playing these games. Ugh.

**SPOILERS**

Wow... I'm sick of all of these n00bs that think that ff7 is the greatest FF ever created just because they just then heard of FF... ff7 made ff popular to all of the n00bl3ts that had never heard of FF before. Cloud was emotionless. The only thing cool about him was his sword, and same for sephiroth. They both blew.

Kefka was the best villan. The end battle with kefka freaked the shit out of me cause Kefka is a psycho and I didn't know what he would do next.

Cecil was the best hero. Not only was he a bad guy at the beginning, he also had a kick ass brother (Golbez for all of the people that didn't finish).  Both of them ruled.  I also liked Tellah and the Twins a lot.  Tellah was such a pimp and I was sad to see him die.  Sad  Same goes for the Twins...and Yang... Come to think about it, all of the pimpest characters in that game died. At least they didn't let that n00b Edward stay. He blew. Rydia ruled. Kain ruled. Everything about FF6 and FF4 ruled.

FF7 however, was emotionless and stupid. OH WOW AERIS GETS KILLED... big fucking rice cake! She was a bad character and her stats were horrible... She was emotionless... I don't know about everyone else, but FF7-8,10,10-2 don't have the same emotions as FF4 and FF6. The earlier FF's were more classy and made you feel like part of the story. I couldn't wait until FFX was done. I just wanted to beat it to say I finished it. When that happens, you know that you have lost interest in a franchise. I just hope FF12 is not emotionless.

If I have ruined any plots for you, please slap yourself for not already finishing the games.

I admit that the earlier FF's had more emotion in them, and that their characters wre deffinatly better. But you can't discount FF7 totally.

Saying that the characters, especially Cloud, were emotionless is horribly inacurate. I mean do you even remember the entire part where Cloud realizes he isn't who the thought he was, and that all of his emotions are pretty much made up. That is some serious fucked up shit. I admit that most of the other charaters were pretty flat, but the game had a very well done story with nice twists.

Now FF8 was a game with some bad characters. I mean the only emotion Squall showed was his unbearable complaining and uncertainty. Rinoah was the typical "girl madly in love" character. The rest of the characters, espicially Zell and Selphie were merely comic relief and were extremely flat character wise. Ontop of all of that FF8's story blew, the only depth that it offered was the whoel Laguna thing. Other than that the game was mere crap. Come on, the Junction system, what the crap was that. I'll take job classes anyday of the week.

I notice that the older gamers tend to prefer the old games and the younger gamers prefer the first games they played. Its seems as though its a case of nostalgia. Both age groups remember the times they had playing those games and it adds to the emotional effect of the game, therefore making the game seem more enjoyable. If i were to play ff6 again today for as if it were the first time, i dont think it would seem as great as if i had played it when i was growing up.

Im sure everyone knows the feeling they get when they recolect on past games of childhood. and for the younger ones, it might be the later games that they feel so strongly for, because these were the games that they grew up with. Besides the actual game itself id have to say that recollections of childhood have a part to play in making a game seem great.
