FROM IGN.COM:
Xenosaga Lives
Namco developing third entry in series, voice actor reveals.
by Anoop Gantayat
June 28, 2005 - It seems that the Xenosaga series will be continuing. Via an update to his personal website, Japanese voice actor Koji Tsujitani reveals that he's now working on Xenosaga 3 and will be providing the voice of Voyager. Tsujitani lists the game's release as to be announced.
The Xenosaga series was meant to span a large number of releases, with reports suggesting six in all. Following the original PS2 release, developer Monolith produced a sequel which featured more adult-like character designs.
Tsujitani does not list a system for the game, but we'd say PS2 is a safe bet. If the game is being developed as a PS2 title, we expect a formal announcement in the not-so-distant future.

After reading the information about what was taken out of Xenosaga 2 on Zenosaga, I'm very afraid that the game is going to be something entirely different.
Meh, I'm just entirely too paranoid, but I've been wanting to see how it began with Xenogears and it looks like that's not happening. Ah well. XP
(Not sure if I'll get it... I'd need to sit and wait to see what kind of information is going to come out.)

Anyway, I bet III will be "Also Sprach Zarathustra"

actually, this weeks Famitsu have some info on Episode III and the subtitle is supposed to be "Twilight of the Idols"... but, whatever.. like Kia said, Monolithsoft removed far too many scenes from the original Episode II script to make me care much more for the future of this series. even the story of Ziggy/Jan Sauer, as seen in
Pied Piper
, was supposed to be in Episode II originally before they decided to put it out on a damn cellphone instead..

Don't bother it was crappy. Find a summary of it on the internets somewhere if you want to know what happened.

Here's a wild idea: if you like playing Ep1, finish it. If not, don't bother. Here's a story summary: Albedo is nuts, and you go and fight him. The party then goes to Second Miltia. That's about all of consequence that happens. I didn't put it in a spoiler tag because precisely nothing is spoiled, because there's nothing to spoil. Nothing happens in Xenosaga 1 (yet strangely I still dig the storyline). That and I don't know how to use spoiler tags.
As for Ep3, hooray! Since I dug both of the previous games, I'll be looking forward to it. They can take all the scenes out they want, I don't really care. If I'm into it I'm into it and that's that. It's a video game, not some sacred movie (though that's arguable - at least, the movie part). If you're still waiting for the beginning of Xenogears to be told, even when it comes I doubt they're gonna do it how everyone wants to see it done - since ep1 and 2 sure haven't been. Though either way it will sure be interesting when (or if?) it happens.

dude, have you
read
the Pied Piper
script
?
that
was supposed to be included in Episode II to make the six Episodes one epic game/cinematic experience that Takahashi envisioned, but the marketing geniuses at Monolithsoft thought they could make more money if they cut away major parts of the storyline and released them as their own games like Pied Piper and who knows, maybe Xenosaga X and Frontier carries other part of the removed script.
seriously, this is what was supposed to be included in Episode II according to Soraya:
* Ziggy's past history (as seen in The Pied Piper)
* U.R.T.V.'s past history (as seen in the Episode II)
* Shion's past history with Febronia (removed)
* Jr's rapid growing (removed)
* Both juvenile and grown-up Jr. switching available in the battle (removed)
* The ghost of the old Miltia (removed)
* The death of Sakura (removed)
* Brief reunion with grown-up Citrine (removed)
* Gaignun vs Zohar emulators (removed)
* Jr.'s transformation/overdrive (removed)
* Jr. & Albedo vs U-DO vs KOS-MOS 3rd armament (removed)
* Shion's spiritual seeking/witnessing/awakening (removed)
* The truth about KOS-MOS (removed)
* Conversation between chaos and the red cloak man (removed)
* Conversation between Nephilim and the boy with the blocks (removed)
* An antimatter annihilation of Albedo (removed)
Removed chapter/events were rejected/deleted subjects.
as for wanting to see the beginning of Xenogears storyline... i never believed Xenosaga would connect with Xenogears so i'm not bothered by that in the least. what i wanted, however, was the new story by Xenogears creator duo Takahashi and Saga, not some butchered abridged script taking of in other directions by a new writing team...

Avast, spoilers ahead for the eight people who still care about Xenosaga's storyline (and haven't yet played the games).
Quote
dude, have you read the Pied Piper script?
nope! but I might get round to it sometime. as for the only things that sound important, ie the KOS-MOS stuff, the stuff with abel (assuming that's who he is), shion's awakening and chaos talking to testament dudes, I'm sure they'll be in episode 3, or 4 or 36 or 3127. I'm not in any hurry to find stuff out, really, as long as they keep me interested.
I can seriously take or leave all that stuff. I just don't care about Citrine, for example, or JR getting big. But maybe that's just me. I'm not the kind of dude who gets intrigued at an anime just cause some character in dark clothing shows up and spouts some cryptic lines that mean -utterly nothing- until episode 25 when it all gets made clear, and Citrine doesn't even do that. A female URTV? Wow, stop the press. Like, they already told us why she's there and they allowed us to see enough of her that I never want to be near her in a game again. That's fine by me. However, I must admit a little more on Shion/Febronia woulda been nice to know (I didn't even know what the connection between them was until I randomly said to my wife, "who the fuck is Febronia anyway?" and somehow she knew even though she's barely played the games).
Names like Takahashi and Soraya Saga and whatnot don't mean a whole lot to me. I didn't know any of their names when I played Xenogears (well, I knew Mitsuda, I guess), and enjoyed that more than any of them. I'm sure pretty much everyone makes a bad game sooner or later, no matter how many good ones they make (buck the trend, TC!), and as good as Xenogears was, it's one game - not enough to make me pine for more of Takahashi/Soraya's stuff. I mean, sure, it'd be nice to have a consistent Xeno team, but I'm not exactly disappointed that there doesn't seem to be, even if the original creators were demoted/removed altogether. Just call me a heartless fuckhead. I was miles more impressed with XS2, as far as the storyline/scenes go anyway. When I play a game I don't sit there thinking of what might have been (unless it's a Peter Molyneux game, har har), and I don't sit there lamenting the demotion/firing of certain staff members. I just, you know, play it, and if I'm entertained by it and make it to the end, and if I can sit back a couple months later and go "well, I was way into that", then I'm into it. And I can do that with both Xenosaga games. They both have their shortcomings, but I really think they could do with working out a more flexible battle system that more than four people on the planet enjoy before they worry about making their epic six-episode story and who they are or aren't gonna get to direct/write/market it. They do function in the video
game
industry after all. And I guess I'll reserve judgement on the Xenosaga story as a whole until it's finished - if it ever is. The stuff coming in episode 3 might be a hundred times better than whatever was left out of 2 - or some of it might appear in 3 - or it might turn into a run-of-the-mill sucky RPG storyline and be a huge letdown for the few that are still way into the Xenosaga storyline. Face the fact, man, no-one will know until it's out.

The one thing that pissed me off was:
* Conversation between Nephilim and the boy with the blocks (removed)
... AAAAAAH.
*sobs*
...granted, I wonder if /everyone/ except for one person dies in Xenosaga 3. If not, I'm going to wonder how the hell that'll work out. Really.

i don't know how anyone can think the story in Episode II was great, it was too short and had too many dumb scenes with Shion being a brat with her brother. the in-game music was horrible, the character design was better than Episode I but the animation quality was noticably worse.
Episode I wasn't that great, but at least it had enough story threads to keep people discussing it while Episode II didn't leave much with it's thin plot. there are more topics to discuss around Pied Piper and ODM translations than from one whole Episode of the Xenosaga series...that's ridiculous.
Xenosaga: Pied Piper
is the equivalent of removing Lacan, Sophia & Krelian's backstory from Xenogears and putting it in a new game on a japan-only cellphone and call it
Xenogears: Surface-dweller wars
.

Exactly. Once I found out about the list of missing stuff... Xenosaga II suddenly felt very short and that bothered me. I had been saying the game was decent, but now knowing this... >_<
I suppose Shion's brattiness can only be explained such as: She couldn't forgive her brother for not saving her and their parents. Still, that's a pretty damn long grudge to hold!
I think they ripped out most of the clarification along with the missing chapters.
I don't know how the series will really survive this newest brand of stupidity: short stories and lack of clarification.
If Xenosaga III turns out to be much better than Xenosaga, I'll be surprised. I'll just keep my expectations extremely low for it... even when I get information. (Things still change even before the game's released...)

Man, I don't want to sound like an unintelligent asshole, but: I thought the story in Episode 2 was great because it grabbed me throughout the game, the scenes (especially the more plot-moving ones) at the end of disc 1 and on disc 2 and the whole feeling of it was, in the main, awesome, from the emergence of Proto Omega to Testament to the stuff at the end, each one just flooring me more than the last. This effect is lessened on replays of course, but that stuff still managed to floor me from the first time since, I dunno, the beginning of FFX at least. I'm not expecting everyone (or anyone really) to have the same opinion as me on this, but personally I was just way into the whole thing. I don't know why I'm bothering to justify an opinion, but there it is.
Now that it's been a few months, I can definately see the faults I didn't see before. Some of the writing IS absolutely terrible (a Xeno tradition, for sure), the best example being Shion and Jin meeting in Starbucks. That was just awfully written, it's like a headache. As for Shion being pissy with her brother, who cares? Who hasn't been a brat to their siblings/family before? You should try reading Wheel of Time book five sometime, and get used to every character bitching at every other character all the time. Shion annoys pretty much the whole planet Earth, and I can see why, but she doesn't get to me like that. So, I don't mind that stuff at all. I quite like Shion, really.
I don't mind the story being short. I can remember more stuff (worth caring about) happening in Episode 2 than 1, though not much really happens in either. The thing with Xenosaga is, it seems that it's something that is geared towards the first playthrough - getting hit with awesome scenes, crazy plot twists (again, the very end before the credits, though that was just the complete and utter bomb), all that stuff. By the end we might have a story as vast and layered as Xenogears', but we're not gonna get it in one game. We'll be lucky to get it in six. And yet, to me, with the advent of XS2, Xenosaga is already somehow grander than Gears. When you drop the kind of stuff that was dropped in the last few hours of XS2, that effect is had.
And where have you been, man, I've seen people discussing the crap out of all this stuff, with a billion questions about where Episode 2 has ended and where Ep3 will go. I don't really go for that stuff but it's there if you look. It just ain't on here. I think the trick is to
find people who actually like the game
first. The reason it hasn't been discussed in as much depth as Xenogears is that there are still questions about where the story is going to ask, rather than trying to puzzle out the hidden meaning behind Kelvena's hair colour. Rigid battle system aside, XS2's most heinous crime is jettisoning the database. I think that's the one thing that everyone can agree on as a bad move. I hardly looked at the thing, but I still appreciated the idea and was interested in going through it sometime. Still got XS1's, I guess.
I'm not sure what I'd like to see in Ep3, for me anything with Testament and Wilhelm is a good start, I'm interested in Nigredo and Yuriev's twist, I wonder if we'll see Sellers or Orgullo again, perhaps meet Heinlein. Some shit will be going down with KOS-MOS I imagine. It'll be fun finding out, anyway (I hope). chaos I imagine will take centre stage somewhat like Jr did in 2, and, of course, I'm interested to see what Alby brings to the story more than anything else.

You know what, they cut a lot out of Robotech from Macross, and nobody even knew for many many years. Even with the known changes left out, etc, its still a good story.
