New Boring Name!
« on: August 09, 2005, 09:16:31 pm »

Hi, this is Metacod, and as you can see I've gotten a new username.  (Nothing cryptic here, they're my initials.)  I've been posting on a few forums under the name Metacod since I was 14 (!), and considering how fast my opinions change about things, there are plenty of old posts on this or that forum that I no longer agree with, or am just plain embarrassed by.  As much as possible, I don't want people to assume I'm still fully behind anything dumb I said years ago--or even months ago--so I though a new username would be a good way to disown all that.  (This isn't the result of some specific, juicy drama, just the fact that like everyone, I've changed a lot from age 14 to 17.  I now cringe at 8th-grade papers I used to think were well-written--same principle.)

You could probably care less.  Just making sure you know who I am.

if i were to change my nick everytime i looked at old embarassing posts i'd be on my 50th new nick by now. i find it funny to look back and see how i've changed, the nick is the same because it's me but the content is sometimes so weird i almost don't recognize myself in it. i was especially thrown off after LMN had changed layout and some old threads were messed up with posts and posters being mixed up and i read a whole thread started by me that i thought belonged to NeoID or someone else...

btw initials are boring but then i'm not one to talk since i've used my initials since i first signed up on a forum back in 97. and it was just because lack of imagination.

you know what would be funny:

everyone who is currently active on LMN could sign up on a different account for 1 month and post under a new name, title, sig and avatar but not reveal who we are... then everyone will just post as usual and we'll see how long it takes before the mere content of our posts reveals ourselves...

The best part about A.C is that mentally I imagine it's the same guy from Saved By the Bell.

I think there are some cases where you have to turn a page on your former life. Some nicks are attached to a certain "character" who doesn't exist anymore. In these cases (as mine), you have to change your nick to another one. Like a "rebirth". Being tired of something old is usual, even if changing a nick is not like changing your hair style. It's just a complete clean up and reset.

About the "secret nick change contest", it might be interesting, but it would really be a mess !

I suggest changing our names and undergoing plastic surgery to see if people in our daily lives will still recognize us based on our personalities.  Which we will also change.

Similar idea to Surtur's, why dont we all get other people to post for us for the next month or so and see if anybody notices the difference.

Man on the Train : I haven't seen too many around lately. Things have been tough lately for dreamers. They say dreaming is dead, no one does it anymore. It's not dead it's just that it's been forgotten, removed from our language. Nobody teaches it so nobody knows it exists. The dreamer is banished to obscurity. Well, I'm trying to change all that, and I hope you are too. By dreaming, every day. Dreaming with our hands and dreaming with our minds. Our planet is facing the greatest problems it's ever faced, ever. So whatever you do, don't be bored, this is absolutely the most exciting time we could have possibly hoped to be alive. And things are just starting

I just got back from my vacation on the 12th, facehole.

-Surtur enjoyed NY.  The Producers was pretty awesome (even though there was no Nathan Lane or Matthew Broderick Sad)
