Best Villain Ever?
« on: December 01, 2001, 06:42:52 am »

Ok... This is not really a poll, but, according to you, what is the best villain ever in a game?

Please note that the question is not "who is your favorite villain?" (to which everyone will reply with either Krel, Ramsus, Ghaleon, or Sephiroth.. which is not the point of that poll)...

In fact, I'm talking about a villain whose role to be evil is played to perfection...

Personally, i would have to go with Shodan from System Shock 1 and 2... The beauty of that AI that went mad is purelly that of a Texas Instrument Calculator that wants to kill you.... Her plans are so twisted, and her means of action are so straitforward, it's just fooking [a href=\"http://kostjan.leamonde.net/temp/sysshock.rm\" target=\"_blank\"]scary[/a] Sad

Second place would be for Lucca Blight (Suiko 2), who is just an incarnation of evil... Evil evil evil.. No mercy, no pity, ever.. hell, that guy enjoys killing kids (remember when he tries to kill Piluka?)...

Third place goes to Kefka (ff6) for being about as demented as Mr. Blight....

So.. What about you? Wink

I place Kefka above the others.

Why?

He succeeded.

Hard to beat a villain that actually wins Smiley

Yeah, Kefka is number 1 in my book. Not only did he get away with destroying the world, but he didn't have  a good reason why he did it. He pretty much murdered millions of people just for the hell of it. Now, how many other villains do you know who have done that???

That's what I thought...

On another note, Ocelot was a bad-ass (hell, he's my callsign in almost every game I play), but I think that Sniper Wolf just barely sneaks past him. She, in my opinion, was the most diverse of all of the Metal Gear Solid villains...

I liked Psycho Mantis a lot too.. he was crazy, and he seriously made my sides hurt... the whole thing with the "moving the controller" was hilarious; I laughed so hard I couldn't play for a good 10 minutes, lol

Who do I think was the best villain ever?

Er... well... Sephiroth, actually.  In fact, he fits your description of the perfect villian nearly to a T.

He killed Aeris.  He wanted to be a god, and risked destroying the entire planet with meteor just to acheive that goal.  He despised humans for what they did to the Ancients.  And, finally, at the very end of the game, after all that he did, he still showed no sign of remorse, only surprise (from the expression on his face) that he could possibly have lost.  Plus he was "fooking" powerful (in the story, not the actual last boss fight...).

Kefka places a close second in my book, for all the reasons already mentioned by TC and Neo~ID.  Thinking about it, though, Kefka seems like a weird Joker rip-off.  Not that that makes him any worse of a villain, though...

-Surtur can beat Sephiroth in a single round.  Then again, so can anyone...

I'm really not sure..
kuja is way close, I thought his melodrama was awesome anyways..  I dunno how 'evil' he actually was cos they tried to paint him to have a good side in the end.  but I thought he was great and evahl for a while.
kefka was all insane and way evil so he's close.  not a personal favourite villain of mine, but the destroying the world thing was fun, and _awesome_ the first time through.  queen zeal coulda been it if she was a true main villain.  I'm just not sure really.
yamaneko is up there too, but you know how I am with CC.  that's just my bias talking and I know it Smiley

edit - sephiroth is maybe up there too but there's the whole 'oh jenova controlled sephiroth' thing.. but if that _is_ the case then jenova's up there.  man I've said 'up there' about six hundred times in this post.

Well Surtur.. If you would of payed a bit of attention to the story.. You'd understand that it wasn't Sephiroth the villain of the game.. Or, rather, that it wasn't the "real" Sephiroth... Sad

As for villains that succeed, the three i mentioned DID succeed... Lucca's goal was to slay as much people as possible.. As last known, he did exactly that, and no1 could stop him.

Shodan, on the other hand, also succeeded at doing just about everything.... hell, if she didn't succeed, can you explain why were you wondering on a "ghost" ship with walls painted in human blood? Sad

Now that you mention it I never understeand that part of the game: Was Sephorot killed by Cloud and the "last one" is only a clone or Sephirot survived?

And another one: was Cloud a clone or he had only some genetics modifications?

And who the hell was Vincent?

Vincent is Vincent Smiley

Sephiroth is basicly a physical body for Jenova.. Smiley

For some reason this prevents Sephiroth from being the best villain ever?  Sorry, but no.  Even if he was a physical body for Jenova, he still existed, and still did those things I mentioned.  In essence, if that were true, then Jenova would have BECOME Sephiroth, and so Sephiroth would still be the game's antagonist, not Jenova.

But still, don't you kill Jenova before fighting Sephiroth?

-Surtur stands by his opinion.

Well, Vincent was one of the Turks (I even think the formal leader before Tseng), who was in love with Sephiroths human mother, Lucrece, but the "horny dog", Hojo, had other plans with her. So Hojo did something to Vincent (I forgot exatly what ^^°) so that Vince ended up in that laboratory, where the good ol' Hojo experimented "a bit" with his body. As result Vince stopped to age, but got a freakish metallical hand and the ability to morph in those ugly critters. Hope it hepled ^.^
