Naruto: Hurricane Chronicles
« on: January 17, 2007, 03:54:13 pm »

So I don't know if anyone really cares anymore (I know my opinion of the anime has certainly been diminished a lot as a result of the 759 thousand episodes of filler), but Naruto is apparently going to be set back on track starting February 15, with the first episode of Naruto: Hurricane Chronicles - which will adapt the second part of the Naruto manga, instead of just making more boring shit up.  I don't know if I'm really interested in this series or its characters anymore, but I'll probably check it out all the same.  Hopefully it'll at least have some kickass action.

Oh, wow, they kept spamming the series with home-made fillers THAT LONG?!?!!! (yep, I stopped following the series, too. ) What I did wonder about, was whenever they are going to keep Naruto's voice the same or actually try and make him sound older? Someone told me that in Dragonball series, which have same idea of the main character growing up, Goku still talked like a girl despite being a dead granpa on steroids... >_>°

i heard about this and i'm probably going to check it out. unfortunately i stopped reading the manga as well because honestly, it wasn't much better than the fillers imo. (ok so i didn't watch the fillers and can't judge it but part 2 is much less interesting than Part 1). i'm also curious if they are going to include Kakashi Gaiden. it would suck if they left it out because i want to hear the Fourth's seiyuu. they also never released a 4th OST last year which was another disappointment.

right now i've actually begun a race through Naruto again and now i remember what i liked about it. though i doubt it will ever be as good again.

Yes, it looks like we feel the same way about this series now. ^^ I'd also love to hear what kind of voice actor they would choose for the Fourth. Besides, Kakashi Gaiden has the only Uchiha, who thinks (or thught) of himself as of a normal human being.
Sort of.

Somehow it doesn't speak well of a series wen you can't tell the filler apart from the actual plot.

well it started to bore me when they added so many instances of flashback in between the fights. So I thought that is where the filler start..

there has been fillers throughout the entire series, but it's mostly been short bits in the middle of episodes like the short preliminary Chuunin Exam, Zaku's flashback, Kimimaro's flashback, the stuff Naruto does for Jiraya when he first met him, etc... the first full episode filler i believe was episode 101 (the one where they wanted to see Kakashi's face) and immediately after that there was a 7 episode filler arc. then it pretty much stuck to the manga up to episode 135 and since then it's been nothing but fillers apparently.

alright, so i watched the first episode of Naruto: Shippuuden and it looked pretty good. best part was the intro which was presented in widescreen format and the awesome new music. they better release a soundtrack CD this spring. not sure what to think of the rap intro though. the choices for opening tunes just keeps getting worse and worse. it was fun to see Konohamaru as a genin and hear his deeper voice too. i never liked him much before but i wouldn't mind seeing more of him now. he needs to take after his grandfather and summon the monkey king heh. looking forward to seeing more.

Haven't finished d/l'ing it yet, but just wondering, how does the quality of the animation compare to Naruto at its prime?  Are they back to form with that, or is it still kind of half-assed?

do you mean the actual animation or the artwork?

the intro is pure quality, it doesn't get much better than that... and i guess the rest was above average. i thought Naruto himself looked weird in some scenes but it could just be the new style i'm not used to yet.

you tell me how the animation compare with Naruto in it's prime... i'm not so good at expressing these things.

it was pretty decent.  The animation quality seemed a lot better than the final few eps of Naruto.  Obviously money was spent on this ep.  Not movie money, but more than the average Naruto.

No animation in there was around to compare to some of the prime Naruto eps though.  It's a lot of staging rather than action.

i'm still not sure what you mean by "prime episodes" and "staging rather than action". having just seen the entire series again up to 135 (minus the fillers) i've noticed my favorite are the animators for the Sasuke-Itachi flashbacks near the end (i think it's the same as the new episode) because of the sweet-looking artwork, and my other favorite animator is Norio Matsumoto who does a few episodes every now and then which are usually full of action (though the characters can sometimes appear to be drawn simpler and with less color in order to produce more images i guess). i'm suspecting it's this guy you are refering to if you're thinking of "prime" as episode 30, 48, 71 or 133 (sasuke vs oro, lee vs gaara, 3rd vs oro, and naruto vs sasuke respectively). i suspect this guy is more expensive and it takes too much time for him to draw a full episode so he can only do so many... but the result is always sweet.

read some praising of Norio Matsumoto and Naruto 133 here: http://www.pelleas.net/aniTOP/index.php?p=224&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1

well, none of it was really fast paced action or anything.  The story was merely in exposition, re-introducing characters, and setting up a scenario.  No real fights or anything of consequence, so most of it was characters standing around...

So it's hard to compare it to "prime" eps of Naruto with a lot of action fluidity to the animation.
