Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance E3 Trailer
« on: July 07, 2007, 12:26:36 am »

Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance is the stand-alone expansion pack to Supreme Commander, and also the current game I'm working on.  The trailer has been released over at GameInformer, so y'know, go check it out, get excited!

Those of you who don't know, Supreme Commander is an real-time strategy game for the PC.  It's also pretty fun (though admittedly pretty complicated if you're an RTS n00b).

I find your lack of rhythm disturbing.

I'm downloading the... rather massive... demo for the original game as we spea... type.  I suspect that the game won't even be able to run on my comp in the first place, lol, but I guess it's worth a shot.

Well, the game has been patched, and runs considerably better than it did at launch.  I'm not sure if the demo is of the patched game... but if performance is the only problem for you, then you should really give the full retail version a try.

Especially if you enjoyed Total Annihilation back in the day.

I don't usually play RTS', in general.  The only one I really played more than an hour of was Warcraft 3, but even that wasn't able to maintain my interest for more than about a week, lol.  I really enjoy RTS', actually, but almost in the same way I enjoy a game like GTA... ie., it's really fun to play every once in awhile, but I can't get completely engrossed in it for the long haul the way RTS fans can.
I never played Total Annihilation... however, I have heard the soundtrack (I think it was one of the first game soundtracks I ever downloaded), which has always been one of my fav game scores ever.

The demo for Supreme Commander, unfortunately, wouldn't run for me.  It started up, and then immediately cancelled out and told me to verify that I met the minimum system requirements, lol.  It's probably not something that'll have been fixed in the retail version, my machine really is a piece of junk at this point.  I seriously need to upgrade it.  Luckily, my birthday's just around the corner. Tongue  After that, I'll be sure to give the demo another try, heh.

sweet.  Yeah, you need a DX9 video card with at least 512MB or RAM, and really, at least a Pentium 4 (though ideally some sort of dual-core machine)

It's a pretty beefy game in terms of the things it does... lots of units.

And yes, I concur about the Total Annihilation soundtrack.  Jeremy Soule also did the soundtrack for Supreme Commander, so it's equally excellent.  Those of you unfamiliar with his work should check out this excellent remix he did of Terra's theme.  It's quite possibly better than any other orchestral version of it.

Does it run on Linux? No?

Then you can forget it.

Ooh, Shacknews has a first impressions of the game.

Choice quote:
Quote from: Shacknews
Ables assured me that the team of three programmers in charge of the task are experienced RTS players, and have been working hard at upping the difficulty for cooperative and single player enjoyment. Apparently the new super-AI is capable of defeating the original hard AI in a mere 10 minutes, with veteran human players only lasting around 20 minutes before succumbing to its superior commanding. All of this is done with less processing power than was devoured by the previous algorithms.

Also, our AI doesn't cheat Wink

Hell, it doesn't run on OS X, which (along with Linux on my media server) is all I run at home for anything serious.

Windows, however, goes on my games computer, which is no different than my consoles really (and is hooked up to my TV).  Turns out that $600USD can get you a decent PC with more games to play than a PS3 Smiley
