Yeah... my experience with Microsoft has actually been much worse than my experience with Sony, so far, lol. My original Playstation never had any problems, and actually still works fine today (according to the friend I gave it to). Ditto for my PS2. Never had any disc read errors or anything.
My experience with the 360, on the other hand, has not been pleasant. The first time I bought it, it would not connect to the internet. I tried everything, but there was clearly some problem with the ethernet port. Tech support suggested I take it back to the store, since I had just bought it that same day, and the store would just replace it. So I went back, replaced it, brought the new one home... only to find that either the component cables or the X-Box itself was busted. The system would not recognize that I had the cables set to HD and connected to an HDTV. It kept telling me it was set to standard. The only way I could get it to work properly was to stand the system up, and have the cables sitting in a very specific way. If they moved even slightly, everything fucked up. But it was enough to get me through the rest of the day, until I could exchange it again, when the store opened the next day. So the next day I went to the store, and after having a mild argument with a salesperson who wanted to convince me that the reason I was having problems was because you needed an HDMI cable to connect to an HDTV, and nothing else would work (grooaaannn), I eventually got it replaced a second time, and this one has worked just fine. So far. If I ever get that red ring of death crap though, I'm going to throw bricks through Microsoft's windows (no pun intended. actually... pun intended, why not), I swear.
So I may get a PS3 eventually. I'm not totally averse to it. There are a few things about it I'm interested in, though not that much right now, admittedly... there's MGS4, Little Big Planet, Killzone 2, the whole Home thing, God of War 3 (well... I'm sure I will be interested in it, when it's inevitably announced :p), and maybe White Knight Story, I'm not sure. But none of that is really worth the hefty price tag, imo. And only MGS4 is a game I feel I am literally dying to play. I still need more. There are also a bunch of PS3 games I want to see being played, but don't really care too much about actually getting to play myself. Specifically, Ratchet and Clank Future or whatever (which looks insanely gorgeous, but... I've never really enjoyed playing any of the Ratchet or Jak games or anything, or any platformers that aren't Mario games, and nothing I've seen from Future convinces me this'll be any different. But I would love to just watch someone else play it, from time to time, lol.), and Final Fantasy XIII (maybe I'll actually want to play that one when more is revealed about it, but for now, I feel like I'd be content just to view the pretty pictures).
And, for the record, I still expect MGS4 to get ported to the 360, though it may take from like 6-12 months after the game comes out for them to actually announce it. But it still seems pretty inevitable to me.
