Preferred non-bittorrent P2P?
« on: November 29, 2007, 07:21:27 am »

So prior to my computer issue of last month, I used to use Limewire for the purpose of downloading single mp3's. In the search of something new and improved, is there anything out there that cuts down on spyware/spam and actually has worthwhile results?

Back in the day Kazaa used to be king, but this was back in like...2002 or 2003 before all the spam came aboard. I was able to search and find loads of singles and eventually built up complete albums that way, with loads of alternate variations (covers, live versions, alt studio versions, etc).

Limewire was spam free but the results weren't as promising as I had hoped. Still, it usually did the job. So rather than downloading entire albums and just picking the singles I want (remember, I prefer to buy albums), what would you guys suggest?

I can always go back to Limewire but would prefer a better solution if available.

these days i always use DC++ and usually results will come up. if the music i'm looking for is too obscure i resort to eMule and i can usually find it there if i search a couple of times. not sure if eMule has alot of spyware though as i'm not too knowledgable about these things. i have managed to get some shit into my computer not sure where it came from though.

I use Soulseek for both albums and singles. It caters more towards the indie/hipster crowd, but it should have anything recent, as well as a number of rarities.

One word - the "mule"... But yeah, P2P is evil and RIAA will love you long time (in all your financial orifices)  if you are unlucky enough to win their lottery..
