So, what's everybody up to nowadays...
«
on:
October 30, 2008, 03:10:21 am »
Given I just spawned (spammed?) several messages with awkwardly similar theme, I figured another one won't hurt anybody. It's been several years since we had an active online community running here, and as such, I am curious on how everybody's faring nowadays and what are they up to now... It's like that 10 years high school reunion, except it hasn't been 10 years, and if we were to attend the same high school, it would have probably collapsed onto itself due to our collective geekness... Anyway..
I'll start with my own self. I am currently working as a Lead System Architect at a company that designs systems for school tutoring / help. Fun job where I get to be the technical god of all and everything - which means I'm only limited by the budget (and requirements) our CEO dumps on me / constraint me with. I've been happily married for a little over 4 years, and no, no kids yet (as I am a huge egoist that still needs to figure a way to serenely give up the idea that all the toys are mine). As of late, I've been into studio photography, and am seriously considering investing time and or money into a photo studio, "for the heart and soul" as they say. I still game occasionally, but not as much as I would love to - in average I guess I play through about 2-3 games a year that require more than 10 hours of my time. This year it was Suikoden 5 and GTAIV, last year (or was it 2 years ago?) it was FFXII and Bioshock, and before than it was just Oblivion... So yeah, that's how I live.
Anyway, what about you, guys?

I'm ... still making games? lol, actually I think I'm about enter a "transitional" phase between companies, if you know what I mean
However, for the last while, I've been Lead Content Engineer, working on gameplay systems, AI, and all the other fun bits that make games cool
Still trying to make time for games, but it's tough. I'm almost done with Megaman 9, been playing a lot of NHL09, and my backlog keeps growing. Argh... almost done with Final Fantasy 4 on the DS too... so awesome.
About to start Fallout 3, Little Big Planet, the new Castlevania on the DS, etc.
Other than that, same old, same old.

Kostya, even if late, congratulations on marrying!
I'm almost finished with my degree (yeah... it still takes time in Germany). Part of the reason why it took this much time was also the last year which I've spend in Japan, which I really enjoyed and which was a life turning experience for me (sounds dramatic, but that's how it was). After finishing, I sincerely hope to either go back, maybe applying for JET program or work somewhere else in the world but not Germany. It's not that I actually dislike it here, but I feel the need to see more of the world. ^^
Right now I am living in Cologne, sharing a flat with friends. Cologne is cool.
After 9 years and an engagement, I also ended up breaking up with my boyfriend.
(And then, there's that story with an Irish Chris Redfield wannabe...)
My interests haven't changed that much actually, (well, after a year in Japan of all things...), I'm actually being able to play some contemporary games thanks to owning a DS, however, I've been drawing significantly less and cooking more. Bento-style lunchboxes are my new creative outlet Nr1.
Oh and I recently got addicted to the Russian version of bash.org. ^^° Rediscovering the crazyness of Russians!

Franz's cheating though.. Silly Franz, posting off-topic replies, potentially trying to hijack the thread...

Kostja's got a point. However, considering the activity rate at Lea Monde nowadays, I'd say, let him try.
Yeah, try to answer it properly! ^^

Lurker present! Though I haven't lurked in many months, but that's generally my thing. Glad to see the core group I remember is still active, as I have some fond memories here.
I don't think I've ever talked about my life, so I'll be brief. I'm now 23 (nearly 24), and living with my parents, and by many accounts, a loser. I had lived in Missouri with a couple internet friends for a few months, but that was misguided, and ultimately failed... horrendously. I met, I think, the love of my life, but that failed because I was wrong, or it wasn't our time. The jury's (figuratively speaking) still out on that. I was going to school in pursuit of journalism, but recently realized that my true passion was nutrition. So I scraped almost two years of progress on that in favor of the latter... though mathematics is not my strong suit, but I will persevere. I quit my longstanding job of 4 years because my moral values were compromised, and am unemployed and looking (in part to my own apathy, and the infamous Michigan economy).
Not as brief as I would have liked...
Games... just finished KOTOR for the first time. I greatly enjoyed it, but look forward to the inevitable dark side playthrough. SupCom (thank you TC) is the only RTS I play anymore, as everything else seems bland and formulaic. FA is on my short list, but as of yet, unattained. I still frequent Chrono Trigger and the occasional Xenosaga Ep 3. Other than that, Tabula Rasa, though I don't have a solid opinion on that yet. As far as consoles go, I've given / sold them away to my close friends, as I'm not that interested anymore, for some reason.

Ooo, we're up to.. umm. let's see (looks at his fingers) one, three... Five!!! So far so good
That being said, Janus, never call yourself a loser! Although you took care to add "by others' accounts", you still wrote it yourself. Leave the name calling game to others, be your own god in your world and present yourself as such (yes, you can view this as a either a blasphemy or as a Xenogears-based pun related to your avatar)...

Janus, until you pick up Forged Alliance, you'll never break free from that loser cycle. Or know true joy.

Oh you're all serious, alright then.
I'm living in Burbank and still at the same graphic design job I've been in for the past 3 years...sort of desiring to get back into illustration after being inspired by so many graphic artists and illustrators at this year's ComiCon (I have no desire to do anything related to comics). I am proud to say that I'm a small part responsible for Disney's BDLive network on the design side, which has been amazing but a big headache to get working (we aren't programming it, so if you happen to use it you will notice a lot of errors like a poorly coded webpage).
Rocking it up in a classic rock cover band but am really desiring more, unfortunately I probably can't get that from California.
...and on my end, that seems to be it for now. Carry on.

Why hello there, people! I still check this board every once in a while.
Well, I've been working at a crummy law job for almost 5 years but I finally have a decent job interview somewhere else tomorrow. I am nervous as can be, which is probably why I'm checking forums instead of focusing on work right now.
I've never actually gotten a job I had to formally interview for - it's all so nerve wracking.
I'm glad to see people are here - and I am also replaying KotOR for the 5th time. Such a fun game, until Manaan... damn fish people...
