Red Dwarf: Back to Earth
« on: April 19, 2009, 12:40:18 pm »

Last weekend the new Red Dwarf specials aired in the UK, called "Red Dwarf: Back to Earth". If I remember correctly T.C. was also a fan of the show. Check them out if you haven't already. I thought they were quite good, great Blade Runner references and homage to classic Red Dwarf. Only problem is they shouldn't have been split up into three parts. It gained an incredible amount of viewers too so let's hope they make a new series soon =)

I am a huge fan, and thanks for reminding me.  I've been so busy I forgot to hunt this down!

So would you reccomend this to people who haven't seen the old series?

Hmm, why not. RD is mainly a comedy so you don't really need to know the plot or anything. Make sure you get all three parts before you watch them though, would be interesting to hear what a non-fan thinks of it.

Opposite end of the spectrum to Nyuna (or whoever it is she speaks of who hasn't seen it before :p), I'm pretty much a lifelong fan of Red Dwarf.  I found Back to Earth really enjoyable.  It has a good atmosphere for sure, and although it didn't reach the side-splittingly funny levels of some of the older episodes, I don't think that's necessarily what they were going for anyway. There was one part (which I will not talk about for now cause of spoilers or whatever) I found really, really weird... I can't believe they actually did it... at first I was like 'okay this is just ridiculous', but on second watching I was really into it.  Anyway, although I have heard many mixed opinions on it (and quite strong ones in either direction), personally I'd say it's worth watching.

I'm glad to hear they pulled in a lot of viewers.  I'd love to see what they come up with for a new series too, over a decade since the last one.

I'm kinda upset that irl the nobel prize went to some guys who proved the universe is expanding (DUH!).  When I was in college my BEST FRIEND fell in love will an eternal bitch who liked Red Dwarf and UK sounds (because I was acting like a play man around him).  I should look him up so I can apologize for my transgressions in the scifi stories, but there are like no sci fi stories!
